Using the Bible Reader

Using the Bible Reader

The Bible Reader in Psalmlog gives you a seamless way to explore Scripture while you journal. You can browse passages, read in multiple languages, tag verses that resonate, and follow footnotes for deeper context — all without leaving the app.

Opening the Bible Reader

There are two ways to open the Bible Reader:

  • During a journal entry: While you're reflecting, tap or click the Scripture icon to open the reader and browse passages related to your entry.
  • From your guidance: When your guidance includes a Scripture reference, tap or click the reference to open that passage directly in the reader.

Browsing Scripture

The Bible Reader is organized by Old Testament and New Testament. You can browse by book, chapter, and verse. Scroll through a chapter to read in full context, or jump directly to a specific verse using the navigation controls.

Multi-Language Bible Translations

Psalmlog supports Scripture reading in seven languages:

  • English
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese
  • French
  • German
  • Hindi
  • Italian

To switch languages, use the translation dropdown in the top section of the reader. Select the language you'd like, and the passage will update immediately.

Auto-Language Detection

Psalmlog detects your browser's language preference and automatically suggests a matching Bible translation when you first open the reader. You can always change this at any time using the dropdown.

Bible Footnotes

Many passages include footnote markers that provide additional context. Tap or click a footnote marker to expand the footnote inline while you read. Footnotes include cross-references to related passages, scholarly notes, translation details, and historical context that can deepen your understanding of the text.

Footnotes appear directly beneath the verse so you can read them without losing your place in the passage.

Tagging Scripture Passages

When a verse speaks to you, you can tag it to connect it with your journal entry. Here's how:

  1. Select a verse or passage in the Bible Reader.
  2. Tap or click Tag to attach it to your current entry.
  3. You can tag up to 3 passages per entry.

Tagged passages appear alongside your journal entry and guidance, creating a richer record of what Scripture meant to you in that moment.

Verse Text in Your Guidance

When you receive guidance that includes Scripture references, Psalmlog now shows the actual verse text — not just the reference. This means you can read the passage in context right within your guidance without needing to open the Bible Reader separately.

If you'd like to explore the passage further, read surrounding verses, or see footnotes, you can still tap or click the reference to open the full passage in the reader.

Clicking References in Guidance

Every Scripture reference in your guidance is a live link. Tap or click any reference to jump straight to that passage in the Bible Reader. From there, you can read the surrounding context, explore footnotes, switch translations, or tag the passage to your entry.

Tips

  • Try different translations. Reading a familiar verse in a different language or translation can surface new meaning and perspective.
  • Use footnotes for depth. Footnotes often reveal connections between passages that aren't obvious from the text alone.
  • Tag verses that move you. Even if you're not sure why a verse stands out, tag it. Looking back at your tagged passages over time can reveal patterns in your spiritual journey.
  • Read verse text in guidance first. The inline verse text gives you quick context. Open the full reader when you want to go deeper.
  • Let auto-detection work for you. If you prefer reading Scripture in your native language, make sure your browser language is set correctly and Psalmlog will match it automatically.
