Journaling Templates

Journaling Templates

Not sure where to start? Journaling templates give you a meaningful prompt, reflection question, and suggested Scripture passage — so you can begin reflecting right away, even on days when the words don't come easily.

What Are Journaling Templates?

Templates are pre-written starting points designed to guide your reflection. Each template includes a category, a thoughtful prompt, and a suggested Scripture passage to anchor your entry. They're especially helpful when you want to explore a new spiritual topic or simply need a gentle nudge to get started.

Template access by plan:

  • Free: A small set of basic templates to get you started.
  • Seeker: A starter template set with more variety.
  • Faith Builder: An expanded library with 20+ premium templates covering deeper spiritual themes.
  • Shepherd: The full library, plus the ability to request custom templates generated from your own journaling patterns.

How to Use a Template

  1. Start a new journal entry.
  2. Before you begin reflecting, browse the available templates.
  3. Select a template that resonates with where you are today.
  4. The template fills in a category, reflection prompt, and suggested Scripture passage.
  5. Use the prompt as your starting point and reflect in your own words — there's no right or wrong way to respond.

Templates set the stage, but your reflection is what matters most. Feel free to follow the prompt closely or let it take you somewhere unexpected.

Saving Your Favorites

When you find a template that speaks to you, mark it as a favorite so it's easy to find again.

  • Tap or click the heart icon on any template to add it to your favorites.
  • Your favorites appear at the top of the template browser for quick access.
  • Remove a favorite anytime by tapping or clicking the heart icon again.

Over time, your favorites list becomes a personal collection of the prompts that resonate most with your spiritual journey.

Custom Templates (Shepherd Plan)

If you're on the Shepherd plan, you have access to something truly personal: custom templates generated based on your recent journaling themes and spiritual growth patterns.

  • Custom templates are shaped by the topics, emotions, and Scripture passages that appear most in your journal.
  • They evolve as your journey deepens, so the prompts you see grow alongside you.
  • Request a custom template anytime from the template browser.

This feature is designed to meet you exactly where you are — offering prompts that feel relevant and timely rather than generic.

Tips for Using Templates Well

  • Treat templates as a starting point. They're here to spark reflection, not limit it. If the Spirit leads you somewhere else, follow that path.
  • Explore beyond your comfort zone. Try a template in a category you wouldn't normally choose — you might be surprised by what surfaces.
  • Rotate through different themes. Variety keeps your journaling fresh and helps you grow in areas you might not focus on naturally.
  • Use favorites strategically. Save templates that challenge you or that you want to revisit during specific seasons of life.
