Connecting YouVersion

Connecting YouVersion

If you already read the Bible in the YouVersion Bible App, you can connect that account to Psalmlog. Your highlights come with you, and any new ones you make while reading in Psalmlog show up in your Bible App too.

Signing In With YouVersion

On the sign-in and sign-up pages, you'll see Continue with YouVersion below the Google option. Choosing it takes you to YouVersion to sign in, then brings you back to Psalmlog.

This creates a Psalmlog account tied to your YouVersion sign-in, so that's the button you'll use each time. The sign-in page marks whichever method you used last, so you won't have to remember.

If You Already Have a Psalmlog Account

Psalmlog won't attach a YouVersion sign-in to an account you created another way. If you originally signed up with your email address or with Google, keep signing in that way — and connect YouVersion from Settings instead, using the steps below.

This is deliberate. Your journal is a private space, and quietly joining two accounts because they share an email address isn't a safe way to decide they belong to the same person.

Connecting From Settings

If your account already exists, connect YouVersion from inside Psalmlog:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Find the YouVersion section.
  3. Click Connect YouVersion.
  4. Sign in at YouVersion and allow Psalmlog to see your highlights.

You can also connect straight from the reader — open Read and you'll see an invitation above the passage until you connect or dismiss it.

Tip: The highlights permission is only requested when you connect from Settings or the reader, not when you first sign up. If you signed up with YouVersion and your highlights aren't showing, you'll see an Allow highlight syncing prompt — one click finishes it.

How Highlights Work

Once connected, opening a chapter in Read shows your existing YouVersion highlights in the colors you chose. A small chip near the top confirms the connection and tells you how many of your highlights are on the chapter you're reading.

To highlight a verse in Psalmlog, click it and pick a color from the bar that appears beneath it. The highlight saves to your YouVersion account, so it's there the next time you open your Bible App.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Highlighting works in both directions for creating highlights, but removing one has to be done in the Bible App.
  • Highlights are tied to the translation they were made in.
  • If YouVersion is unavailable, reading carries on as normal — you just won't see your highlights until it's back.

If Your Connection Expires

Connections refresh themselves in the background, but occasionally one needs renewing — if you revoke Psalmlog's access from your YouVersion account, for example.

When that happens, Psalmlog tells you rather than quietly showing no highlights. You'll see Expired in Settings and a Reconnect prompt in the reader. Reconnecting takes one click and nothing is lost.

Disconnecting

Go to Settings, find the YouVersion section, and click Disconnect. This removes the connection Psalmlog holds. Your highlights stay safely in your YouVersion account — disconnecting only stops Psalmlog from seeing them.

You can also revoke Psalmlog's access from your YouVersion account at any time.

What Psalmlog Can and Can't See

Connecting shares your highlights, and nothing else. Psalmlog doesn't see your reading plans, your notes, your bookmarks, or your reading history.

It works the other way too: your journal entries and your guidance are never sent to YouVersion. The two accounts are linked so Scripture and your reflections sit in one place — not so your private writing travels anywhere.

Next Steps

  • Using the Bible Reader — explore Scripture, highlight verses, and carry a passage into a reflection.
  • Managing Your Account — your sign-in method, connected accounts, and account settings.
  • Privacy & Data Security — how your journal entries are stored and protected.
