Using Offline Mode
Using Offline Mode
Psalmlog's mobile app lets you journal even without an internet connection. Your entries are saved locally and automatically processed once you're back online.
How It Works
When your device loses its internet connection, Psalmlog switches to offline mode automatically. You'll see a yellow banner at the top of the screen letting you know you're offline.
While offline, you can still:
- Record voice entries — Your audio is saved to your device.
- Type text entries — Write your journal entry as usual.
- Select scripture — Browse from a default list of books and translations.
- Tag scripture passages — Add tags to your entry.
Your entry is saved locally and added to a pending queue until your connection returns.
Pending Entry Limits
You can save up to 3 journal entries while offline. If you try to save a fourth, you'll see a prompt asking you to connect to the internet first so your pending entries can sync.
What Happens When You're Back Online
Once your device reconnects to the internet, Psalmlog automatically begins processing your pending entries in the background. You'll see a blue banner that says "Syncing pending journals..." while your entries are being processed.
Each entry goes through the same steps as a normal submission — voice entries are transcribed, and all entries receive personalized Scripture-based guidance. You'll receive a notification when each entry is ready to view.
If syncing fails for any reason, Psalmlog will retry automatically over the next several hours until your entries are successfully processed.
What's Not Available Offline
A few features require an internet connection:
- Scripture chapter text — You can select a book and chapter, but the full text won't load until you're online. A placeholder message will appear instead.
- Guidance — Your personalized guidance is generated after your entry syncs, not while offline.
- Monthly Insights — Requires an internet connection to load.
- Dashboard stats — Updated once your entries are synced.
Tips for Offline Journaling
- Don't worry about losing your entry. Everything is saved securely on your device until it syncs.
- Journal as you normally would. The experience is nearly identical — just without the immediate guidance response.
- Check your pending count. The offline banner shows how many entries are waiting to sync.
- Entries process in order. Your oldest pending entry is synced first.
