Getting Started with the Mobile App

Getting Started with the Mobile App

The Psalmlog mobile app puts your spiritual journal in your pocket — reflect, receive guidance, walk out your next steps, and listen to Psalmcast from anywhere. Here's what you need to get started.

Who Can Use the Mobile App

The mobile app is a companion to a paid plan. To sign in, you'll need an active subscription or a free trial on Seeker, Faith Builder, or Shepherd.

If you sign in on the Free plan, you'll see a Subscription Required screen inviting you to subscribe on the web. Once your subscription is active, tap Already subscribed? Refresh and the app will unlock immediately — no need to reinstall or sign in again.

On the Free plan and want to journal from your phone? You can. Open psalmlog.com in your phone's browser and journal there. The web experience is fully mobile-friendly, and your 3 free sessions work exactly as they do on a laptop. The native app is what requires a paid plan — not mobile journaling itself.

Subscribing and Upgrading

All Psalmlog subscriptions are managed on the web. There are no in-app purchases.

Whenever you tap an upgrade or subscribe option in the app, it opens app.psalmlog.com in your browser to complete checkout. Your plan then syncs back to the app automatically.

This is also where you'll go to change plans, update payment details, or cancel — see Managing Your Subscription.

Downloading and Signing In

  1. Download Psalmlog from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  2. Open the app and choose your sign-in method:
    • Google — available on both iOS and Android
    • Apple — available on iOS
    • Email and password — sign in with your existing Psalmlog credentials
  3. Sign in with the same account you use on the web, and your sessions, guidance, walk, and subscription all sync automatically.

The Personalization Survey

The first time you open Psalmlog, you'll go through a brief personalization walkthrough covering how you found Psalmlog, your age range, where you are in your faith journey, and your goals for journaling. It takes a minute or two, and it shapes how your guidance meets you from day one. You can update your answers anytime from your Profile.

App Permissions

  • Microphone — required for voice journaling, available on every paid plan. Skip it if you prefer to type.
  • Notifications — enables reminders, walk check-ins, and Psalmcast alerts.

You can adjust both later in your device settings.

Navigating the App

The bottom navigation bar changes slightly with your plan:

  • Home — your dashboard: recent sessions, streaks, and quick actions
  • Guidance — browse and revisit your past sessions
  • Walk — your tracked next steps (Faith Builder and Shepherd)
  • Psalmcast — your audio devotionals

Your Profile is reachable from the top bar, along with your notifications. A Psalmcast mini-player appears above the navigation bar whenever an episode is playing.

Starting a Session

Tap What's on your heart? at the top of your Home screen to open the focus browser. From there you can:

  • Pick a focus and tap Continue
  • Browse the full template library (keyword search on Faith Builder and above)
  • Tap I'll choose my own path today to skip the focus and write freely
  • Tap Create Custom Template to generate a personalized template with its own prompts and Scripture

Then reflect using either input method:

  • Text journaling — type your reflection. Available on every plan.
  • Voice recording — speak and let Psalmlog transcribe, up to 10 minutes per session.

A session uses one mode or the other — switching to Voice clears anything you've typed, so pick your mode before you start. See Voice Journaling on Mobile for the full walkthrough.

How Your Guidance Works on Mobile

After you submit, your guidance is generated securely on Psalmlog's servers — no sensitive processing happens on your device, and no keys or credentials are stored locally. Your guidance appears within moments, just as it does on the web.

If you're interrupted mid-session, your in-progress writing is saved and recovered the next time you open the app.

What the App Adds

  • Voice recording — speak your reflections instead of typing
  • PsalmStory — shareable visual cards generated from your sessions
  • Offline journaling with sync — reflect without a connection; entries sync when you're back online
  • Push notifications — gentle reminders and walk check-ins
  • Psalmcast offline downloads — download episodes and listen anywhere (Faith Builder and Shepherd)

Tips

  • Enable notifications. A daily reminder makes more difference to a journaling habit than almost anything else.
  • Try voice journaling. Speaking often goes deeper than typing, and it's included on every paid plan.
  • Use offline mode when traveling. You don't need a connection to reflect — write or record and let it sync later.
  • Check your Walk from your phone. Marking a step done takes two seconds and is exactly the kind of thing a phone is for.
