Getting Started with the Mobile App

Getting Started with the Mobile App

Psalmlog's mobile app puts your spiritual journal right in your pocket. Whether you're on the Free plan or a paid tier, you can reflect, receive guidance, and grow in your faith from anywhere. Here's everything you need to get started.

Who Can Use the Mobile App?

The mobile app is available to everyone — no subscription required to get started:

  • Free plan — You get 3 journal entries on the mobile app. It's a great way to experience Psalmlog before committing to a paid tier.
  • Seeker, Faith Builder, and Shepherd plans — All paid tiers include full mobile app access. Each starts with a 7-day free trial, so you can explore everything risk-free.

Downloading and Signing In

  1. Download Psalmlog from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  2. Open the app and choose your sign-in method:
    • Google Sign-In — Available on both iOS and Android.
    • Apple Sign-In — Available on iOS devices.
    • Email and password — Create an account or sign in with your existing Psalmlog credentials.
  3. If you already have a Psalmlog web account, sign in with the same credentials and your entries, guidance, and subscription will sync automatically.

The Personalization Survey

When you first open Psalmlog, you'll go through a brief personalization walkthrough. This covers:

  • How you discovered Psalmlog
  • Your age range
  • Where you are in your faith journey
  • Your goals for journaling

This helps Psalmlog tailor your experience and guidance to where you are right now. It only takes a minute or two.

App Permissions

Psalmlog may request the following permissions during setup:

  • Microphone — Required for voice journaling (available on Faith Builder and Shepherd plans). You can skip this if you prefer to type your entries.
  • Notifications — Enables reminders and updates to help you stay consistent with your journaling practice.
  • Camera and Photos — Optional. Used only if you'd like to set a profile picture.

You can always adjust these permissions later in your device settings.

Navigating the App

The bottom navigation bar is your main way to move around. Here's what you'll find:

  • Home — Your dashboard with recent entries, streaks, and quick actions.
  • Sessions — Browse and revisit your past journal sessions.
  • New Entry — The center button. Tap it to start a new journal entry at any time.
  • Psalmcast — Listen to personalized, Scripture-based audio reflections (available on Faith Builder and Shepherd plans).
  • Profile — View your account details, subscription status, and app settings.

Writing Your First Entry

Tap the New Entry button in the center of the bottom navigation bar to begin. You can reflect using:

  • Text journaling — Type your reflections directly. This is available on all plans.
  • Voice recording — Record your thoughts and let Psalmlog transcribe them (Faith Builder and Shepherd plans).

You can use text and voice together in the same entry — whatever feels most natural in the moment.

How Your Guidance Works on Mobile

After you submit an entry, your personalized, Scripture-based guidance is generated securely on Psalmlog's servers. No sensitive processing happens on your device, and no keys or credentials are stored locally. Your guidance appears in the app within moments, just as it does on the web.

Mobile-Exclusive Features

The mobile app includes several features you won't find on the web:

  • Voice recording — Speak your reflections instead of typing (Faith Builder and Shepherd).
  • PsalmStory — Beautiful visual cards generated from your entries that you can save or share (all paid tiers).
  • Offline journaling with sync — Reflect even without an internet connection. Your entries sync automatically when you're back online.
  • Push notifications — Gentle reminders to keep your journaling practice consistent.
  • Psalmcast offline downloads — Download your Psalmcast episodes and listen anytime, anywhere (Faith Builder and Shepherd).

Tips

  • Enable notifications. A simple daily reminder can make a meaningful difference in building a consistent journaling habit.
  • Try voice journaling. If you're on Faith Builder or Shepherd, speaking your reflections can feel more natural and help you go deeper than typing alone.
  • Use offline mode when traveling. You don't need a connection to journal. Write or record anytime and let it sync later.
  • Start with the Free plan. Your 3 free entries are a great way to see if Psalmlog fits your rhythm before choosing a paid tier.
  • Complete the personalization survey honestly. The more Psalmlog knows about your journey, the more relevant your guidance will be from day one.
